Apple Launches The Mac App Store
By Chris Weiss
Silly me, I always thought that apps were just lightweight software programs (applications) designed to bring some computer-type functions to cell phones and light mobile devices. But, apparently they’re good for computers too. Or maybe Apple just wants to find one more way of cashing in on the app craze.
Whatever the case, Apple announced today that it will be launching a Mac App Store. The new outlet will look just like the iOS App Store, but will be built into the newly announced Mac OS X Lion for use on Mac computers. So now you’ll be able to get your fill of farts and tip calculations on your Mac–but you’ll still need to pull up Safari for porn.
The new store will launch in about three months and should make it much easier to find and install applications for your Mac computer. Apple quoted download and installation times in terms of seconds. Apps will be split about 70 percent free and 30 percent paid. [via CrunchGear]
