Apple Is The Most News-Worthy Tech Company Says New Study
By Chris Weiss
Here at GadgetCrave, we cover the gamut of tech companies every day. Since we only do a limited number of posts, we try to keep the overinflated Steve Jobs sneezed Apple headlines to a minimum. Out in the world of hard news, however, the big media outlets pay more attention to Apple than any other tech company, according to a new study by Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism. Given how much effort Apple spends on orchestrating news coverage, this should hardly come as a surprise to anyone.
Acc0rding to the study, Apple found its way into 15.1 percent of mainstream tech news stories between June of 2009 and June 2010, beating out Google (11.4 percent) and Twitter (7.1 percent). Seeing how much ink was dumped on iPad rumors, events, debut, market launch and sales during that time, it’s not surprising to see Apple at the tippity top.
Surprisingly, the iPad actually lagged behind the iPhone in terms of Apple’s most dominant headline-maker. The iPhone was the #2 most covered tech story line, behind only “texting while driving.” The iPad was # 4. The iPhone and the iPad were the only two products in the top 14 story lines, appearing with more contextual stories like “China and the Internet” and “Politicians using technology.” [via MacRumors]
