Apple Continues Cleaning the App Store’s House, Wi-Fi Scanners

Like any teenage boy knows, porn only keeps you occupied for so long. Apple has decided that it’s time to move on from porn, more accurately clean-up thereof, and onto other apps that it is deeming useless or otherwise in violation. Ironically, the big Granny Smith began with what would seem to be pretty useful apps, a host of apps that locate Wi-Fi signals by scanning for them.

App developer Three Jacks Software reported that its app “WiFi Where” was removed earlier this week for what Apple called use of unpublished APIs within the iPhone OS software development kit. Similar apps including WifiTrak, WiFiFoFum, yFy Network Finder, WiFi Get, eWifi, and WiFi Analyzer were also taken off the App Store shelves.

Wow, Apple clearly doesn’t care that it’s beginning to look pretty douchey. It’s one thing to reject an app, but to offer it and then arbritarily pull it whenever you feel like it doesn’t seem like good business. If the iPhone weren’t so damn popular, and the app market so diffuse, perhaps a developer boycott would be in order. [via AppleInsider and PC World]
