Apple: App Store Gets 1.5 Billion Downloads
By Jared Newman
Less than three months after Apple’s App Store saw its billionth download, the company announced 1.5 billion total downloads. Even though the store for the iPhone and iPod Touch serves applications from third-party developers, this is good news for Apple, which uses the store’s possibilities as a marketing point for its top-shelf smartphone. Meanwhile, other companies are struggling to offer something comparable, and Apple CEO Steve Jobs knows it. “The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality,” Jobs said in a statement. “With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.” Maybe the bigger news here is that Jobs is talking trash again. It’s good to have you back, Steve! [via PC World]
