Apple App Store Enjoys Huge Christmas Download Numbers
By Chris Weiss
Kindle owners weren’t the only ones busy making headlines on Christmas Day. According to data from Flurry, a mobile apps analysis company, App Store downloads for the iPod Touch increased by 1,000 percent on Christmas, as new iPod Touch owners got their first taste of the mobile app world.
The iPod Touch surge helped to lead the App Store to a 51 percent increase in downloads from November to December. Compare that to the 15 percent month-over-month from October to November and it’s clear that it was a merry holiday season over in Cupertino. The iPod Touch also jetted past the iPhone for app downloads for the first time this Christmas.
Not quite as overwhelming as the Touch news, but equally positive, Motorola’s Droid captured 49 percent of Android app downloads on Christmas. Android apps enjoyed a 22 percent month-over-month boost between November and December.
