Apple Adds an Explicit Category to the App Store

It’s not quite live yet, but AppleInsider is reporting that Apple has added a category labeled “Explicit” to the iTunesConnect website, allowing developers to label their apps as such. There are currently no apps with the label, but it could reflect Apple’s grand plan to redirect all adult content (except for big names that offer adult content in magazines and other “well-accepted” media) to a new adults-only section.

Apple began removing all explicit content from the App Store last week, a move that has caused a stir from developers and those that don’t believe Apple should serve as moral gatekeeper for the iPhone.  It’s not known for sure if the removed apps will be allowed back under the new heading, but it seems safe to assume so.

The company could have saved a lot of trouble if it made some mention to plans of organizing the content into its own section on the App Store, unless it’s simply reacting to the criticism, which has been widespread.

So, all you iPhone pervs, cross your fingers and hope Apple launches that explicit section soon.  [via AppleInsider]
