Meridiist Another Unnecessary Luxury Phone: TAG Heuer/Lamborghini Meridiist

What do you get when you cross two premium brand names, neither of which has anything to do with mobile phones? Yet another “luxury” phone that you can’t afford and wouldn’t want if you could. The unlikely team-up of Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer and Italian car icon Lamborghini could have brought a stylish carbon timepiece or limited edition Murcielago with TAG Heuer-inspired instrument panel to market. Instead, they have chosen to throw their creativity into the garbage disposal and create the new TAG Heuer Meridiist Automobili Lamborghini phone. Really rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it.

Besides looking like it came from 1995, the new phone’s attraction really ends at its premium branding and promise of being inspired by the incredible Murcielago. It doesn’t bring anything new or interesting to the mobile phone market, but uses a variety of Lambo ploys such as signature on the battery cover and logo on the keypad to justify what’s undoubtedly a stupidly-expensive price tag. Outside of that, you get the luxury-staple sapphire crystal display, black titanium carbide coated 316L stainless steel housing, 2 MP camera, Bluetooth and media player. Thrillingly mediocre. Don’t expect to find this one at your neighborhood Best Buy when it drops later this month; it’ll be available from select Lamborghini and TAG Heuer dealers to the tune of 1963 examples (Lamborghini’s founding year).
