We’re not even officially in the Android 2.2 era yet, and already we’re tempted with an even more delectable little dessert: a warm, savory serving of Gingerbread baking in the oven and offering delightful aroma of what we’ll soon be feasting on. Android 3.0, which continues in the desert naming scheme Google has been so fond of, packs a whole lot of punch. Some details were leaked today courtesy of Mobile-review’s Eldar Murtazin and there’s not much to dislike.

Android 3.0 will have minimum requirements that include a 1 GHz processor, displays that are 3.5 inches + and 512 MB of RAM. It will support resolutions up to 1280 x 760 on displays over 4 inches. The user interface will also get a major overhaul and will supposedly eliminate the need for third-party skins like MotoBlur and HTC Sense.

According to today’s information, Android 3.0 will debut in mid-October and begin appearing on phones just in time for the holiday season. It will be the Android for top-end phones while lesser phones will continue to use Android 2.1 and 2.2. [via Unwired View]
