Always Innovating’s Touch Book Mocks XP, Intel
Jun 26, 2009 - By Jared Newman
The netbook market is crowded, so if you’re a new entrant looking to make waves, smack talk’s as good a method as any. Always Innovating bemoans the “Power-hungry Intel Atom” processor and “outdated 90’s OS” (presumably, Windows XP) plaguing its competition. Instead, the Touch Book offers ARM Texas Instruments’ OMAP3 chip — similar to what appears in the Palm Pre smartphone, but probably more powerful — and its own proprietary operating system. But the big draw is an 8.9-inch touch screen, which can be used alone or as part of a full keyboard setup. Thanks in part to the OMAP3 chip, the netbook is “always on” and gets about 10 hours of battery life. The Touch Book won’t cost a fortune either; on pre-order, the tablet alone costs $299 and the full setup is priced at $399. Bark and bite are up for comparison when the Touch Book ships next month.
