AI Programmed to Play Super Mario World

Growing up, I was pretty decent at Super Mario Bros., but I’m no machine. This video of AI precisely guiding Mario over pits, under Bullet Bills and atop Goomba and Koopas tells me that I could’ve been so much greater, if only I was born with the mind of a computer. The “Infinite Mario AI” was programmed for entry in a contest by IEEE, in which coders try to make the smartest Mario for a $500 cash prize. Entries are tested against Infinite Mario Brothers, a java version with never-ending levels. It’s not clear how you’d improve over what we see above. Collect all the Yoshi coins, maybe?
