Adobe Launches Air 2.5 With App Building
By Chris Weiss
Adobe announced its new Air 2.5 today and building apps just got a little easier for developers. The new release will allow developers to use Adobe tools like Flash Builder and Flex toward creating apps that work across platforms including Android, iOS, Blackberry Tablet OS and desktop operating systems. The apps will be made available in a new store called InMarket, where developers will be able to easily sell different versions of their apps to consumers. Adobe 2.5 will run on televisions, smartphones, tablets and desktops. It will include support for accelerometer, Geo Location, camera, video and multitouch functions.
Adobe Air 2.5 will make its debut on such devices as Samsung SmartTVs and Acer, HTC, RIM and Motorola smartphones and tablets.
David Wadwhani, a senior VP at Adobe, explained what the new runtime will mean to developers: “With the release of AIR 2.5 more than three million Flash developers can now build a single game or application and easily deploy it across multiple application stores and devices. This is a huge step forward for developers looking to build rich, engaging applications but have historically had to incur the cost of building and deploying this content across multiple devices and platforms.” [via Engadget]
