If you’re looking to totally geek out on 3D computer games at a coffee shop or on an airplane, Acer’s got your solution in the Aspire 5738DG notebook. It’s one of the few notebooks with a 3D display coming onto the market, and it should be available later this week. Instead of using multiple projection layers to depict a three-dimensional image, The laptop is coated in a special 3D film, which gives its 15.6-inch LCD screen the appearance of improving depth. The aforementioned geek factor is due to the pair of 3D glasses you’ll have to wear to enjoy the effect.

In addition to playing games and movies with 3D content built-in, the Acer Aspire 5738DG can simulate 3D effects in two-dimensional images, using a bundled tool that works with some games an applications. You can also enable 3D viewing of e-mails, documents and spreadsheets, perfect for turning basic productivity into an extreme, mind-blowing experience. For specs, there’s an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 graphics chip (no special graphics card is required), 4 GB of memory, a 320GB disk drive, a webcam and a multi-gesture touchpad. The Aspire 5738DG weighs in at 6.16 pounds. It’s shipping soon with Windows 7 for the surprisingly not astronomical price of $780. [via Wired]
