59-Foot Gundam Stands Tall in Tokyo
By Jared Newman
America is so lame. When someone wants to celebrate our humanoid robotic superheroes, they become crappy movies, cross-marketed onto Slurpees, burgers and mediocre video games. Japan gets lifesize statues get put on display for picture-taking and the feeling of security that only a six-story-tall robot can provide. Bandai erected the 59-foot Gundam robot to honor the anime series’ 30th birthday. Announced back in March, the statue was completed for July as scheduled, and it looks awesome. It’ll stand at Tokyo Bay Island for two months, after which it’ll presumably fly off to fight other robots. Either that, or it’ll head to America and sell itself as part of a value meal.
