100-Disc Blu-Ray Player Keeps Your Movies Loaded and Ready to Play
By Chris Weiss
Got a huge Blu-ray collection taking up way too much of your entertainment-center shelving or drawers? How about slimming that excess down with the new Kaleidoscape 100-disc server, dubbed the industry’s first Blu-ray movie server. The server allows you to load, rip and stream Blu-ray movies around your house.
Sounds pretty cool right? A whole lot of dollar signs worth of cool. You see you’ll have to invest about $1,500 on the 100-disc Blu-ray vaultĀ itself. And in order to rip the hard discs to the Kaleidoscape’s hard drives, you’ll need a Blu-ray player. And not just any Blu-ray player, but a $2,500 Kaleidoscape M300 or $5,000 M500. Not only that, but you’ll need to actually have the physical disc loaded in order to stream. The 100-disc capability makes it a little easier to keep your discs loaded and ready, but overall this sounds like spending $4 grand just so you can watch Blu-rays around the home a tad quicker and more seamlessly. Nice, but not $4,000 worth of nice.
Personally, I’d rather save the 4 Gs and just pop my discs in manually, slow loading times and all. Plus, Netflix is still $8 a month, right? [via Engadget]
